Introduction
Over the last ten years, our understanding of the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) of antiinfective chemotherapy has markedly improved and has reached the point where this science may, and even must, be taken into consideration not only for the proper development of new agents but also for the proper clinical use of antimicrobial agents. By using such information researchers, regulators and clinicians can achieve the goal of maximal therapeutic effect while reducing the risks of drug exposure-related adverse events as well as the selection of resistance. While this is now more and more recognized by Academia, Industry and Regulatory Agencies, there is presently a lack of training into these disciplines.
Aims of the Working Group
To promote international exchange of ideas and new research into all aspects of PK/PD, also in collaboration with other scientific societies (i.e. ISAP)
Work Plan
1. To organise a workshop on PK/PD during the biannual ISC congress
2. To organise occasional educational meetings.
3. To encourage scientific exchange with other scientific organizations
4. To implement the PK/PD approach in anticancer chemotherapy
5. To apply for research grants.
