I write to update you on three significant meetings, which will take place during the first half of this year.


25th ICC / 17th ECCMID
Munich, Germany, 31 March - 3 April 2007

ISC highlights at the congress are as follows:

Saturday 31st March
Many of the ISC Working Groups have organised sessions on the first day of the congress. For further information on the Working Groups, please go to www.ischemo.org/02_Sections.htm

The Opening Ceremony will be followed by a Reception.

Sunday 1st April
Professor Satoshi Omura (Japan) will receive the ISC Hamao Umezawa Memorial Award and will deliver a lecture on “Discovery of useful microbial metabolites with specific biological targets.” This will be followed by a reception to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the International Congress of Chemotherapy from 17.30 to 19.00.

Monday 2nd April
Dr. George Rolinson will be made an Honorary Member of the ISC and will deliver a commemorative lecture entitled “2007, the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the penicillin nucleus 6-amino penicillanic acid.”

Tuesday 3rd April
ISC will host a Closing Ceremony to celebrate the congress. On this occasion Meritorious Membership will be presented to Professor Erdal Akalin. The IAS IASC Travel Grant will be awarded as well as the Tome Bergan and John David Williams Memorial Awards. Finally, the ISC plaque will be handed over to Professor Raphael Saginur, who will be President of the next ICC, to be held in Toronto in 2009.

ISC Executive Committee
During the congress in Munich many official ISC business meetings will take place. Notably, we will welcome four new members onto the Executive Committee.

2 – 3 March 2007. Geneva, Switzerland
1st European Conference on Bloodstream Infections: DMS

This conference is part of the Disease Management Series (DMS), a worldwide project supported by the ISC, in collaboration with participating affiliate societies. Registration is now open. The number of delegates who can register for this Conference is restricted to 50; registrations will be processed on a first-come first served-basis.

A total of 50 to 100 specialists will discuss recent issues of this important topic; one third of the time will be used for discussion. Presentations will be published in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents immediately after the Conference.

Third International Conference on Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP III): DMS
Montréal, April 14-16, 2007

Registration and abstract submission is now open for CAP III.
In addition to addressing the most relevant issues in CAP, the meeting will provides the opportunity to discuss more controversial issues in depth, led by the leaders in the field. All significant advances in CAP will be reviewed in detail, in a scientific unbiased fashion, with a particular focus on diagnostics and therapeutics.
