Firstly, I would like to update you on an exciting international collaboration undertaken by the ISC Working Group on Urinary Tract Infections. Secondly, we are about to enter the start of a new conference season and I would like to draw your attention to the meetings highlighted below.

Publication of International Guidelines
The ISC Working Group on Urinary Tract Infections has collaborated with a number of other international bodies to publish guidelines in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents. The paper is entitled: European and Asian guidelines on management and prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infections.

Update on Fungal Infections. Madrid, 29 February – 1 March 2008
ISC, FESCI and the Spanish Society of Chemotherapy have jointly organised this meeting which is chaired by Prof. Juan J. Picazo of Madrid. Programme sessions include:

Candideamia in the critically ill patient.
Fungal infections in Immunocompromised patients and transplant recipients
Management of the patient with invasive fungal infection
Invasive fungal infection in the haematological patient
Update on the prevention of invasive fungal infections in oncohaematological patients
Current topics in fungal infection in critically ill and transplant patients

2nd ISC European Conference on Bloodstream Infections,
Sitges, Spain 17 – 18 April, 2008

Sitges is just 35km from Barcelona and easy to reach. This meeting will take place immediately prior to ECCMID which will be held in Barcelona 19 – 20 April – so why not combine the two meetings in one trip!

The faculty is truly international, having been drawn from eight different countries. It is chaired by José M. Miró (Spain) and Christoph K. Naber (Germany)

International Congress of Infectious Diseases, Malaysia, 19 – 22 June, 2008
The 13th ICID will continue the pattern of overwhelming successes in recent years in Lisbon, Cancun, Singapore, and Buenos Aires.
The meeting in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia will again welcome delegates from over 100 countries. The scientific program for the congress is nearly complete and there is an outstanding line up of speakers and topics that will be of interest to anyone active in the fields of infectious and emerging diseases. The deadline for abstract submissions to the 13th ICID is February 15. You are asked to submit your abstract as soon as possible and take advantage of reduced registration fees by registering on or before April 15, 2008.
