Florence, Italy. June 2010 |

| Dear Friends, During the last two months the Society has been very active and successful. The ISC has been represented at many Congresses and Meetings. Recently, these have included the 1st Southeast European Conference on Chemotherapy and Infection in Varna (6-9 May), “SADI 2010 – the Xth Argentinean Congress of the Argentinean Society of Infectious Diseases” in Mar del Plata (14-16 May) and the 4th annual Bloodstream Infection meeting. The latter was held in Athens, 27 – 28th May in collaboration with the International Society of Cardiovascular Infections. As usual, this was an extremely successful meeting with about 200 particiapnts and several speakers from North America. The proceedings will be published in a supplement of the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents. Earlier this month we had a much appreciated symposium during the 58th Congress of the Japanese Society of Chemotherapy in Nagasaki (3-5 June). It is rewarding to see how active our affiliated societies are. It is especially encouraging to see their congresses so well supported by their own members as these are occasions of important cultural exchange. These events have helped the ISC to proceed with its fundamental mission, which is to improve knowledge in the field of chemotherapy. The next educational event will be from September 19-23 at Palazzo Feltrinelli on the Garda Lake in northern Italy. This will be the first course on Anti-Infective Pharmacology organised by the ISC together with FESCI and the Italian Society of Chemotherapy (SIC). This summer school is a one-week course dedicated to postgraduate and continuing medical education, covering the pharmacological topic of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) evaluation. It will be of interest to both young MDs and post-doctoral fellows working in the infection field as well as pharmacists and PhD students. We hope there will be many participants in this course which will enable us to continue it in future years. We ask your total cooperation and support of the next 27th International Congress of Chemotherapy which will take place in Milan from May 7-10, 2011, together with the 21st ECCMID congress. We hope you can encourage your colleagues to attend this important scientific meeting. The scientific program is being completed now and we are sure it will be a very worthwhile meeting both scientifically and socially. With best wishes, Teresita |
