Aims and Objectives

The resurgence of infectious diseases of zoonotic origin observed in recent years imposes a major morbidity/mortality burden worldwide, and also a major economic burden that extends beyond pure medical costs. The resurgence and epidemiology of zoonoses are complex and dynamic, being influenced by varying parameters that can be roughly categorized as human-related, pathogen-related, and climate/environment-related. However, there is significant interplay between these factors.

The Zoonoses Working Group aims to provide an international platform for promoting and encouraging the effective exchange of information about research and development activities in the zoonoses field (of any etiology, bacterial, viral, parasitic). Our platform supports information flows between academia, clinicians and public health researchers and raises awareness on all sides for the needs of the medical community as well as the problems related to the multiple aspects of zoonoses.

The Working Group plans to continue organising meetings and symposia related to different general and specific topics in zoonoses, as well to keep publishing articles and special issues on zoonoses in major international journals.

Most recently, the group has organised symposia at major international meetings: 28th ICC (June 2013, Japan); 13th International Congress of Parasitology (August 2014, Mexico) and 17th Panamerican ID Congress (May 2015, Ecuador). Special issues at: Journal of Immunology Research (IF=2.9), Recent Patents on Anti-Infective Drug Discovery and Travel Medicine & ID (IF=1.54).
